Give Your Teen the Confidence to Babysit

The first babysitting job is a big step. A young sitter has to keep a child safe, handle a crying baby, spot a problem early and know exactly what to do if something goes wrong. Most teens have never been taught any of it.

Our Babysitting and Child Safety course in Stoughton, MA gives students ages 11 and up the skills to care for infants and children with confidence. The class is hands-on and interactive, so your teen practices real caregiving and safety skills instead of just listening.

Students also learn the business side of babysitting: how to talk to parents, what to ask before accepting a job, what to charge for, and how to stay professional and safe on the job.

Every student who completes the class and the skills check receives a certificate valid for two years, plus a student handbook to take home.

What Your Teen Will Learn

The course combines childcare basics, safety and simple first aid, taught at a level that works for a young sitter with no experience.

Caregiving Basics

  • Holding, feeding and burping an infant
  • Diapering and hand washing the right way
  • Bottle feeding and safe snack choices
  • Bedtime routines and safe sleep
  • Keeping toddlers busy and calm
  • Caring for more than one child at a time

Safety and Supervision

  • Watching children of different ages safely
  • Spotting hazards around the home
  • Preventing choking, falls and burns
  • Kitchen, bathroom and stair safety
  • Answering the door and the phone
  • Personal safety rules for the sitter

Emergency Response

  • When to call 911 and what to say
  • Choking relief for children and infants
  • Basic first aid for cuts, scrapes and bumps
  • Burns, nosebleeds and insect stings
  • Allergic reactions and asthma warning signs
  • Staying calm and reaching the parents

The Business of Babysitting

A good sitter is trusted by parents, not just liked by kids. This part of the class helps your teen act like a professional from the very first job.

  • How to talk with parents before, during and after a job
  • Questions to ask at the interview, including allergies, routines and house rules
  • What information to collect: emergency numbers, address, medical details
  • Setting clear hours and understanding what the job includes
  • Knowing which jobs to accept and which to turn down
  • Building a good reputation so families call back

These are the same habits that help older students later when they apply for childcare, camp or after-school jobs.

Babysitting Certificate and CPR Certification Are Not the Same

This class covers child safety and basic first aid, including choking relief. It is not a full CPR certification course. If your teen needs a CPR card for a camp job, a lifeguard role or a childcare position, add our CPR and First Aid certification class. Many families take both.
