Get Your Documents Notarized Without the Runaround

Finding a notary should not take three phone calls and a trip across town. If you live or work in Stoughton or a nearby town, you can book a time with us, bring your document and your ID, and walk out with it notarized.

A notary public is an official witness. Our job is to confirm that you are who you say you are, that you are signing willingly, and that the signature on the document is really yours. That witness step is what makes affidavits, powers of attorney, consent letters and many business documents acceptable to banks, courts, schools and agencies.

We are a healthcare training center in Stoughton, and our notary service is available to students, local families, employers and anyone in the community who needs a document signed and sealed properly the first time.

Appointments are short. Most single-signature notarizations are finished in a few minutes once your identification is verified.

Types of Notarial Acts

Massachusetts recognizes several kinds of notarial acts. The wording already printed on your document usually tells us which one it needs. If you are not sure, bring it in and we will read the certificate with you.

Notarial ActWhat It MeansCommon Examples
AcknowledgmentYou confirm to the notary that the signature is yours and that you signed of your own free willPowers of attorney, deeds, contracts, business filings
Jurat, oath or affirmationYou sign in front of the notary and swear or affirm that the contents are trueAffidavits, sworn statements, court forms
Signature witnessingThe notary watches you sign and confirms your identityConsent letters, agreements, school and travel forms
Copy certificationThe notary confirms a copy is a true copy of an original document you presentDiplomas, certificates, records requested by another office

Fees are quoted before the appointment. Massachusetts does not set a single statewide maximum fee for ordinary notarial acts, so every notary sets a reasonable fee and must tell you what it is before the notarization. Contact us for the current fee and we will confirm it before you come in.

What to Bring to Your Appointment

A few minutes of preparation keeps the appointment short and avoids a second trip.

  • A valid, unexpired photo ID such as a driver's license, state ID or passport
  • The complete document, including every page, not only the signature page
  • Every person who has to sign, each with their own photo ID
  • Any witnesses your document requires, if the form calls for them
  • The instructions from the office that asked for the notarization, if you have them

Do Not Sign the Document Before You Arrive

For most notarial acts the signature has to happen in front of the notary. If the document is already signed, we may have to ask you to sign a fresh copy. Bring it unsigned and we will tell you exactly where to sign.

What a Notary Can and Cannot Do

We can

  • Verify your identity and witness your signature
  • Administer an oath or affirmation
  • Complete and seal the notarial certificate
  • Certify a copy of an original document

We cannot

  • Give legal advice or tell you which form to use
  • Prepare, draft or fill out your document for you
  • Notarize for someone who is not physically present
  • Notarize when there is no valid photo identification
  • Notarize a document with blank spaces left to be filled in later

A notary public is not an attorney and cannot represent you or advise you on your case. For legal questions, speak with a licensed attorney.

FAQs

What do I need to bring to get a document notarized?

A valid, unexpired photo ID, the complete unsigned document, and every person who needs to sign. If your form requires witnesses, bring them with their own photo ID.

How much does notarization cost in Massachusetts?

Massachusetts does not set one statewide maximum fee for ordinary notarial acts, so fees vary by provider and must be stated before the notarization. Contact us for our current fee. You may have seen a figure of one dollar and twenty five cents online. That amount applies only to a specific act in the protest of a dishonored financial instrument, not to everyday notarizations.

Can I sign the document before I arrive?

Please do not. Most notarial acts require the signature to be made in front of the notary. If the document is already signed, you may need to print and sign a fresh copy.

Can you notarize for someone who cannot come in?

No. Every signer has to be physically present with valid identification. If a signer cannot travel, contact us and we will tell you what your options are.

Do you offer mobile or remote notarization?

Our notary service is provided in person at our Stoughton office. Massachusetts does allow remote online notarization by authorized notaries under specific rules, and not every document qualifies. Ask us about your situation.

Can you tell me which form I need or help me fill it out?

No. A notary public is not an attorney and cannot give legal advice, choose a form for you or draft your document. We can point out where a signature and a notarial certificate belong.

What kinds of identification do you accept?

Current government-issued photo identification such as a driver's license, a state ID card or a passport. The name on the ID should match the name on the document.

Do you notarize wills and estate documents?

Wills, trusts and similar estate documents often have specific signing and witness requirements. Bring the instructions from the attorney or office that prepared the document, or contact us in advance so we can confirm before you come in.

My document is going to another country. Is notarization enough?

Documents headed abroad often need an apostille or certification from the Secretary of the Commonwealth after they are notarized. Notarization is usually the first step, not the last one.

How do I book?
