Self-Paced Online Coursework with In-Person Support from One Health and Beyond, Stoughton, MA
If you work shifts in a group home or a day program, sitting in a classroom for two full days is not always possible. Massachusetts allows MAP certification training to be delivered as a hybrid, which means you can move through the coursework online and complete the rest with your trainer.
The online course is the state approved Responsibilities in Action Massachusetts MAP Certification Training. It is self-paced, and most students plan on roughly fourteen to sixteen hours of study. You check in with your MAP Trainer along the way for questions and support, and you finish with the face-to-face component before testing.
One Health and Beyond in Stoughton supports direct care staff through the whole path, from registration to test day. If you learn better in a classroom, our in-person MAP certification class covers the same material in person.
One thing to know up front: MAP cannot be completed entirely online. The face-to-face component and the state certification test both happen in person.
Every part below is required. The online course replaces classroom seat time, not the rest of the process.
| Part | Where It Happens | What to Expect |
|---|---|---|
| Registration | Through an approved MAP Trainer | Students cannot enroll themselves in the online course. An approved MAP Trainer or service provider registers you and sends your login details |
| Online coursework | Online, at your own pace | The state approved online MAP certification course, covering medication administration responsibilities, documentation, safety and required components |
| Study time | Online | Plan on about fourteen to sixteen hours in total. MAP certification training runs a minimum of sixteen hours including all required components |
| Completion window | Online | Students are usually given about two weeks to finish the course. Talk to your trainer early if you need more time |
| Materials | Shipped or provided | A resource packet, plus training blister packs. Images cannot replace real blister packs for online students |
| Face-to-face component | In person with your trainer | The hands-on part of the training, which cannot be skipped or replaced by video |
| Certification test | In person with the state contracted testing vendor | All initial MAP certification testing is handled by the state contracted vendor, not by the training provider |
| Certification | Massachusetts MAP registry | Your certification takes effect when your passing result is posted, and it is valid for two years from the last day of the month in which you passed |
Why fully online MAP does not exist. Massachusetts requires the training to be delivered as a hybrid, meaning the online course together with the face-to-face component, and the state test is taken in person. Any program advertising a complete MAP certification with no in-person step is not describing the state process.
Both paths lead to the same certification and the same state test. Choose the one that matches how you learn and how your week looks.
Work through the units whenever you have time, then meet your trainer for the face-to-face component.
