MAP Exam: What Is on the Knowledge and Skills Test

Healthcare student preparing for the Massachusetts MAP certification exam with practice study materials and medication blister packs

The MAP certification test is the last hurdle between your training and your certification, and not knowing what to expect makes it more stressful than it needs to be. This guide walks through what the MAP exam covers and how to prepare.

A note first: exam details are set by the state and its testing vendor and can change. Confirm the current format through your MAP trainer and the official testing information.

When the Test Happens

The test comes after you complete training. In Massachusetts, initial MAP certification testing is handled by the state contracted testing vendor, not your training program. Your certification takes effect once your passing result is posted, and it is valid for two years. For the full path, see our guide to MAP certification requirements.
